Kent - Venue 1

Our Lady of Crays, 312 High Street, St Mary Cray, Orpington BR5 4AR

See Map: https://lowcosthalls.co.uk/location/orpington/

The Hall is a good size and has plenty of ventilation. Refreshments (tea & coffee) will be available at the venue. The wearing of face coverings is encouraged, but not mandatory.  However, if players leave their board they are asked to put on a mask.  Players should leave the playing area once their game is complete.  Captains will do all they can to match up players who both wish to play with a mask.

An important note:  There is what appears to be an electronic gate in the High Street leading to the Hall.  This is permanently closed and there’s no operator.  From the High Street you'll need to turn into Blundell Close and follow that around to the Hall.   There’s plenty of car parking spaces.  There is also an overground railway station at St Mary Cray with trains to and from London Victoria.

The time controls will be 35 moves in 100 minutes, plus 20 minutes and a 10 seconds increment for each move from the start. The playing session will be four hours and a half hours.  We are required to vacate the Hall and the Car Park by 5.00pm.  Therefore Kent home games will need to start at 12.15pm

Kent - Venue 2

St Anselm’s Parish Centre, 89 West Hill, Dartford DA1 2HJ

The main entrance is actually in West Hill Drive. See Map

This will be used for the two Open team matches v Surrey (Saturday, 5 December 2021) and Kent v Sussex (Saturday, 12 March 2021).  Because of the requirements of the venue matches will start at 12.15pm.  The car park must be cleared by 4.30pm.

The time control will be 35 moves in 100 minutes, followed by the addition of 20 minutes for the game, with 10 seconds increments from the start.  Face coverings will be optional at the board.  Players are asked to wear a mask if they get up from their seat, particularly if they are looking at other games.

There are regular trains to Dartford from London Charing Cross and if you’re coming in the other direction from mid-Kent.

For those travelling by car the journey is straightforward (although those using the Blackwall Tunnel should prepare for heavy traffic). From the A2 take the Dartford turn off.  At the roundabout take the turn off towards Dartford.  Keep going straight ahead for about two miles, the road bends to the left and you’ll pass Dartford Grammar School (and the Mick Jagger Centre).  You’ll come to a mini-roundabout, take the first turnoff on to West Hill then a sharp right on to West Hill Drive and the St Anselm’s car park is immediately on your left.

Make sure you go left at the mini-roundabout, otherwise you’ll be stuck in the one-way system and its permanent traffic jam!

Kent Venue 3

(This will be used for the Kent v Middlesex U1450 match on 5 February 2022)

St Thomas More Church Hall, 420A Long Lane, Bexleyheath DA7 5JW

The time control will be 35 moves in 100 minutes, followed by the addition of 20 minutes for the game, with 10 seconds increments from the start. Face coverings will be optional at the board. Matches start at 12.15pm. Players are asked to wear a mask if they get up from their seat, particularly if they are looking at other games.

Entrance to the Hall is at the rear where there are plenty of parking spaces. The Hall is a twenty minutes walk from Bexleyheath station, or the B11 bus heading towards Thamesmead runs from Bexleyheath Station to within a 100 yards of the venue (5 minutes).
