In the last game to finish, with Herts needing a win to draw the match, their board x played the winning move and offered a draw. x was an even number. |

Bucks mc: "Is this a first ever win for Bucks over Kent?" rjh: - No. Bucks I beat Kent II in 1991-2 and 1978-9, when Bucks were in the second division. Does that count? I have found no Bucks wins, or draws, in the first division but have only checked back as far as 1977-8. |

1 Bd 13. There is a D Chaudhary, but not with that grade. Perhaps this is SD Chaudry 157 of Hounslow.2 Bd 15. Again there is a D McGovan, but not with that grade. Our suspect this time is Derek P McGovern 145 of Staines. |

Oxon team order shuffled to accommodate the (known) defaults. The Middx captain appears to have continuing difficulty when away from home. This isn't fair to half of Middx's opponents, and we hope he'll solve it. |

Defaults not notified in advance. 1 Bd 10: No such player in the master list. The obvious guess was Majid Mashayekh, but he's disappeared. However, if you look for his old reference number, you find it's still there and the property of one Maxim Jeffries (so), grade 157. |

"Certainly this Essex side was well beaten on the day by a younger team that clearly deserved its success." - (acting) Essex mc "When was the last time Oxon beat Essex in the Open? I can't remember EVER being on the winning side." - Oxon captain. We've checked only as far back as 1977-8, but in that period Oxon have always lost to Essex in the Open. This is not quite such a disastrous record as it sounds, because Oxon were not always in the Open in the eighties. We didn't check carefully enough. Ivor Smith (see Open Forum) recalls one Oxon win in this period, and an earlier one as well. |
